A bedroom rug can highlight your room’s decor by accentuating the color scheme, contributing to the room’s style, and establishing the room’s tone. You can even look at your bedroom area rug’s pattern for similar motifs and shapes to your other artwork. Position: One of the first steps is to determine where you want to place your bedroom rug. Of course it varies depending on the size of your bed and your room’s footprint, but there are some standard ways to go about it.
A Central Focal Point: If your bed is a centered point in the room, then you can naturally place your bedroom area rug centered with the bed. You can place the rug all the way under the bed to anchor the bed and nightstands, or you can place the rug under the bottom two-thirds/half of the bed.
A Subtle Touch: Perhaps you have a smaller bedroom or gorgeous floor you want to highlight. In that case, place a runner rug along one or both sides of the bed. This allows you to add in the warmth of the rug without it overwhelming the room.
A Separate Space: If you want to establish another small area of the room such as a reading nook or spot for your morning coffee, use a small bedroom rug to set up that area. Whether you go with a round rug, square, rectangular, or something else, use one that fits the scale of that space and invites you over towards it.
Size: Once you know your ideal layout, it’s time to think about the rug’s size. In terms of scaling it to a queen or king sized bed, larger sizes like 8x10 and 9x12 are ideal for sitting all the way under the bed or just halfway under it. The size of bedroom accent rugs will vary depending on how big that separate area is, but remember it should be in scale to the room itself so that nothing looks too big or too small in comparison to one another.
Pattern: There’s no limit to unique bedroom rug patterns. Some patterns like persian and oriental fit in with more traditional or classic spaces, while geometric rugs tend to fit in with modern and boho styles. The shapes and designs of the pattern are one way to define the rug’s style, but it’s not the only key factor.
Color: There’s no understating the importance of color in your bedroom area rug. Neutral colors like grey, beige, black, and white are common in modern bedroom rugs and even rustic, farmhouse rugs. The prominence of these colors and what they’re combined with is one factor to consider, but you should also consider the vibrance of the colors. For example, coastal bedroom rugs will often feature blue and green, but the brightness of those colors dramatically impacts the room’s tone and mood. Choose a rug with a color palette that strikes the proper tone and fits in with your other decor.
