How a Vintage Floral Rug Can Highlight Your Room Decor

A vintage floral rug can highlight your room’s decor by adding to the room’s color palette, style, and tone. By using similar imagery throughout the room, you firmly establish your theme and allow it to shine through each piece of decor.

Anything coined with the term “vintage” has its own spin on what vintage looks like. In some cases, it means that the rug’s design is faded and distressed to show the love and care associated with time. Other rugs will showcase designs that specifically harken back to different eras and put them in the forefront. Whichever way you’re leaning, there are plenty of vintage floral rugs out there to choose from. 

Choosing Which Vintage Floral Rug is Right for You

As you shop for your perfect vintage floral area rug, consider these key areas to help you narrow your search. 

Position: One of your first steps should be to determine where your rug fits in your room’s layout. 

Living Room: Vintage floral rugs can fit right at home when they’re centered within your main seating area. You may have it rest in front of the seats, under their front two legs, or all the way under them. You can even use a small vintage floral rug elsewhere in the living room to establish a small reading nook/seating area.

Dining Room: The most natural/common layout for dining room rugs is to place your rug right beneath your table. Leave about two or three feet of excess on each side for the chairs to be pushed in or pulled out. 

Bedroom: If your bed is a central focal point, you can further define the space by placing a vintage floral rug centered beneath the bed. Two common layouts include placing the rug all the way under the bed or under the bottom two-thirds of it.

While it’s true the shape of the rug itself can set a tone, there are two more factors that are more important than the shape of the rug. 

Pattern: The pattern is one of those key factors in setting the tone and style. Like we said earlier, some vintage rugs will use distressing and faded designs to harken back to the past, while others will use vintage imagery, designs, or patterns. Determine which way you want your vintage style to lean by looking at examples of vintage rooms and your other decor for guidance. 

Color: Color is another important part of establishing the tone and style. Once again, the colors may be faded and distressed, or they may be the colors of a past era like mustard yellow, orange, and teal. Focus on finding a color palette that connects to your other decor and sets the right mood so that your room expresses your personality and style.
